Doubleblind Sirantha Jax Book 3 Ann Aguirre Books
I never got to reading the last 2 of the series when they came out. I have a thing about knowing the end of a series is near, and I'm not ready to leave the universe, so I stall. Lol. Imagine how I handled Harry Potter and the Fever Series.ANYWAY, I am re-reading the series to finally finish it. (I missed March, anyway:p) I will admit when I first read Wanderlust and Doubleblind, I was surprised at how they gave me a lot of political insight and a new way to reflect on international headlines I didn't always particularly care for before. Not to mention the inevitable corruption among "higher ups."
All that being said, I don't think this is the best book of the series. It seemed to stretch where it wasn't necessary and I found myself re-reading the same paragraphs most the time. The other books took me a few days, this one took me maybe two weeks. Lol.
I do love this series, though. I truly believe the "Grimspace" universe would do well as a TV series. One can dream, though. Totally onboard to start a petition!

Doubleblind Sirantha Jax Book 3 Ann Aguirre Books Reviews
Overall, I'm hooked. I'm not generally a fan of SciFi, but after reading Doubleblind, I'm really in the mood to pick up another one. Aguirre's storytelling is fascinating and has the ability to instantly captivate anyone. The characters were further developed beautifully, the plot was intriguing and lacked a lot of the blood and guts from Wanderlust and was quite simply a memorable read. Honestly, I read this back when it first came out in September and it's still fresh in the back of my mind. That right there is one of my huge signals that a story is superb.

We start exactly where Wanderlust stops. Jax is heading down to the Ithtorian planet for the first time. Ithtorian's, once roamed the stars but recoiled to their home dissolving all trading and connections to be isolated by choice, now Jax's mission as ambassador is to open this connection once again. A mission to do her best and not fail at as it will affect the whole world. March is broken over what he did on Lachion and Jax doesn't want to, or bare the thought, of losing him. He remembers loving her but can't feel the love any longer. Vel is at Jax's side helping and translating as he can. But things always get complicated for Jax... both with the Ithtorians and March and her crew.
I really liked the whole set up of the Ithtorian and their organic world. This is just as new to Jax as it is to us, and she adjusts well. With adjusting you see, in this book, just how much Jax has grown since the day March helped her escape from the hospital after her crash. She has become stronger mentally as a character and leader. She is coming to realize what she needs and wants, and what needs to be done for the larger good. She has come a LONG way from the star struck nav.
I love that March is broken here. This is a way to show March is not the perfect man Jax thinks he is. And also to show that there is only one man for Jax alone with how she learns to cope with things. Seeing March broken this way brings March into a new light. And we get to learn more about his past. We even get to learn about the Mair who saved March from himself all those years ago, by way of journal files she kept.
The writing style is pretty much the same, except we get little glimpses of the Syndicate through short clips. These clips are done through tv shows, people views of current and past happenings, news bulletins and etc. These are wonderful ways to share and get small indications of what is happening out in the universe while Jax is here working to try to get an ally for the Conglomerate.
The beginning isn't even bogged down with the rehashing of past events. There is a quick paragraph on each character with a brief history. But this is done in a nice way as Jax is looking over her crew as she is descending to the potential hostile new world.
This really is a wonderful science fiction read that does NOT get weighed down with the technical science technology things. Wonderful with always moving forward, action, and characters who are changing with it all.
I WILL be moving on to the next book, Killbox.
Sirantha Jax is a formidable heroine. Whether she is fighting flesh-eating Morguts or acting the ambassador to an alien world, she uses her brain and her heart to fight the good fight!
Doubleblind is the third installment in the Sirantha Jax series and is just as good as the first two awesome books in the series. Jax's diplomatic mission to Ithiss-Tor continues in Doubleblind. Once on Ithiss-Tor, Jax depends on Vel, a native of the planet, and her PA Constance to keep her from getting into diplomatic trouble with the native 'bugs'. Jax's crew, mechanic Dina, pilot Hit and bodyguard Jael are all there to lend support, as is March.
But March is not the same man Jax fell in love. The struggles on Lacian (see Wanderlust) have left him broken and violent. So while Jax is cultivating the goodwill of the Ithtorians, she struggles to find a way to 'fix' March.
There are threats against Jax's life. This is not unexpected considering a large portion of the Ithto-centric population wants no part of an accord with the Conglomerate. But with her universe threatened by the Syndicate, the Morguts, pirates and a struggling government, Jax cannot afford to leave Ithiss-Tor without an understanding.
In Doubleblind, Jax continues to evolve from the care-free navigator who looked forward to nothing but her next jump and R&R to the more serious, super-tough woman who has taken on more than her fair share of challenges. Including the future of humanity! As a diplomat, Jax sees less action and more politicking through much of the book. But Jax's act now, think later mode does kick in at an appropriate time, so if you are thinking this story is all talk and no action, think again!
I listened to audiobook versions of Grimspace and Wanderlust, but had to read Doubleblind myself. It was a different experience. I really liked Suzanna Duff's rendition of the first two books. But when I listen, I realized, I miss many of the subtleties of Ms. Aguirre's fine storytelling. Without a doubt, she is a capable and inspired writer. I'm going back to audio for Killbox, #4 in the series, since it is available, but won't be afraid to go back to print if I have to for the rest of the series.
